Dental Care

Dental health for pets is perhaps the most overlooked aspect of preventive care. Many pet owners are surprised to find out that dogs and cats develop significant levels of plaque and tartar. If left untreated, this can lead to dental disease and have negative impacts far beyond their mouths. Unfortunately, cats and dogs are good at hiding pain, so even the most diligent pet owners are often unaware their pet has developed dental problems until they are severe. We are proud to have a fully equipped dental suite that includes all the latest technology required to make sure your pet's mouth receives the best care possible.

Are dental checkups included in annual veterinary exams?

At Roncy Village Veterinary Clinic, annual veterinary exams include a thorough dental checkup. We also offer complimentary dental health assessments with one of our skilled veterinary technicians. If your pet is due for a dental exam, call us at 416-538-8387 to schedule an appointment and get more information about our services.

What happens if dental disease is overlooked for too long?

When dental disease is left untreated for too long, the result is a very sore mouth for your pet – and extractions may be the only option. Our goal is to minimize the need for extractions in the first place. That being said, this procedure significantly reduces pain and improves your pet's overall comfort.

What happens during a dental cleaning?

If a dental condition cannot be remedied with at-home dental hygiene, a dental cleaning might be the first step to help your pet tackle dental disease. For dental cleaning, all pets must be placed under general anesthesia. That is the only way plaque and tartar above the gum line can be removed. The results include a sparkling white smile, fresh breath, and improved general health.
